I started writing stories before I knew how to write. Somewhere in my parents’ attic sits a pile of folded construction paper, each sheet strewn with short, disjointed phrases and stick-figure drawings. These little storybooks the first things I ever wrote – and they were awful.
As a journalism and interactive multimedia double major at the College of New Jersey, I hope to turn this love of storytelling into a career. Thankfully, my writing has improved somewhat since my construction-paper-and-crayon days.
In spring of 2015, I won first place for sports writing in the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association Contest. In 2018 I won third place in the profile category. I also won a prestigious internship offered by the New Jersey Press Foundation, which I completed at the Courier News/Home News Tribune/MyCentralJersey.com newsroom. There I learned the ins and outs of local journalism.
Since taking up interactive multimedia as a second major, I’ve been learning to tell stories through media besides writing. Some of my work can be seen here.
